Two APSC profs awarded top UBC research prize

Two APSC faculty members — Colleen Varcoe, a professor in the School of Nursing, and David Wilkinson, a professor in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering — have received the UBC Killam Research Prize in recognition of their “outstanding research and scholarly contributions.”
Since 1986, the annual prize has been awarded to exceptional full-time UBC researchers who have held their university appointments for at least three years. Five prizes go to faculty members in science and applied science, while another five are handed out in the arts and humanities. Nominations are made by faculty colleagues.
Varcoe, who joined UBC as a faculty member in 2005, pursues research that aims to promote ethical healthcare practice and policy in the context of violence against women, especially in rural and Indigenous communities. Wilkinson, a UBC professor since 2004, is developing innovative clean energy technology solutions.
Varcoe and Wilkinson will accept their prizes at an annual awards reception hosted by the Office of the Vice-President, Research and Innovation, on April 17, 2018, in the Glass Lobby of the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts.
