Jose Martinez, a fourth-year student in the UBC mechanical engineering program’s biomedical option, has received the UBC Geyer Family Award in Biomedical Engineering.

Made on the recommendation of the UBC Faculty of Applied Sciences, the $2800 award recognizes biomedical engineering undergraduate students “with an entrepreneurial spirit, an interest in the local biomedical engineering industry and demonstrated leadership and communication skills.”

Martinez has worked with Arbutus Medical, Evasc, Ammolite Biomodels, the UBC Surgical Technologies Laboratory, and UBC’s Biomedical Engineering Student Team, and is currently enrolled in UBC’s New Venture Design course, where teams of students from APSC and Sauder develop a business plan and demonstrate a prototype for a new product or process of their choosing.
