New head of UBC Materials Engineering named

Daan Maijer, PEng, has been named the new head of UBC's Department of Materials Engineering, where he has been a professor since 2002. His five-year term begins on July 1, 2018.

Professor Maijer co-leads UBC's Advanced Metals Processing Group, which aims to develop better metal alloys for use in the automotive and aerospace industries, and directs both the Integrated Engineering program and the Advanced Materials Manufacturing Masters of Engineering Leadership program at UBC. He holds a BASc and PhD in metals and materials engineering from UBC.

We congratulate Professor Maijer on his appointment to this new role, and we sincerely thank Warren Poole, PEng, for his outstanding leadership of the UBC Department of Materials Engineering over the past decade.
