Dean James Olson announces the reappointment of Dr. Steve Feng as Head of Mechanical Engineering

A message from James Olson, Dean, Faculty of Applied Science

The Faculty has made tremendous progress toward our strategic plan over the last few years, very much in part because of the tremendous group of school directors and department heads.

I'm pleased to announce that one of our leaders, whose term was coming to an end, has had their appointment extended for another five years. The appointment extension consideration was conducted in accordance with UBC policy AP9 and established procedures in the Faculty of Applied Science. Appointment committees met with the incumbent and sought written feedback from members of their department, which ultimately led to their reappointment, as detailed below.

To that end, I'm pleased to announce the following term extension within the Department of Mechanical Engineering. 

Dr. Steve Feng

Re-appointed Head, Mechanical Engineering, July 1, 2024

I am delighted that Dr. Feng has agreed to be extended for another term and I look forward to working with him in his continuing role as Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Dr. Feng is currently on a one-year administrative leave and will start his second term as Head when he returns on July 1, 2024. Dr. Ollivier-Gooch will continue as Head, pro tem, until June 30, 2024.
