Interdisciplinary health research with UBC Engineering awarded $175,000
January 12, 2023
Seven interdisciplinary research projects involving UBC Engineering faculty are each receiving up to $25,000 in Health Innovation Funding Investment (HIFI) Awards from UBC Health.
HIFI Awards enable interdisciplinary groups of health researchers to undertake innovative activities with the potential to create change, catalyzing cross-faculty and cross-campus collaborations across UBC Vancouver and Okanagan.
A new health equity stream is supporting five of these UBC Engineering-affiliated teams to promote diversity and inclusion, and to positively impact health equity across individuals and communities.
Examples of these innovative projects include using deep-learning for bladder cancer screening, implementing a new solution to mitigate airborne disease in Kelowna General Hospital, and field testing a new screening technology for sickle cell disease in areas with fewer resources.
