Introducing E-Hub, a UBC engineering student’s launch pad for gaining career-ready experience
UBC's Faculty of Applied Science has launched its Experiential Learning Hub. E-Hub is a one-stop-shop for students to explore experiential learning opportunities that can enhance their degree, and develop critical, in-demand skills for the workplace.
The faculty’s experiential learning opportunities now have a new centralized source for information relating to:
-
Co-op and work-learn programs
-
Mentoring opportunities
-
International study experiences
-
Design teams
-
Student clubs
The work world is rapidly changing, and there is a significant need for more than just technical skills offered by traditional education. Employers are increasingly asking for skills such as emotional intelligence, leadership, communication, and intercultural and EDI awareness. Although many of these skills have roots in the classroom, a student's participation in extra and co-curricular experiences help solidify these competencies, and gives students an opportunity to demonstrate them.
“Our mission is to educate tomorrow’s engineering leaders,” said Dr. James Olson, Dean, Faculty of Applied Science. “The newly created Experiential Learning Hub will provide engineering students with wide-ranging and streamlined experiential, leadership and entrepreneurial opportunities shaping them to take on the myriad of challenges we face in climate action, developing sustainable and thriving communities and cities and creating effective and inclusive solutions for people.”
The Experiential Learning Hub (E-Hub) will help students identify the skills they wish to develop and the discover matching experiences that will help them develop those skills. E-Hub will also highlight successful students and alumni, and the different experiential learning pathways that they took during at UBC that led them to career success.
