UBC Engineering professor elected to Canadian Academy of Engineering
Dr. Bhushan Gopaluni, a professor of chemical and biological engineering in UBC Faculty of Applied Science, is one of 54 new Fellows elected to the Canadian Academy of Engineering (CAE) announced this week.
Fellows are selected for their “outstanding contributions to engineering in Canada” and their “service as role models in their fields and to their communities.”
The Canadian Academy of Engineering is the national institution through which individuals, who have made outstanding contributions to engineering in Canada, provide strategic advice on matters of critical importance to Canada and to Canadians. Fellows are committed to ensuring that Canada’s engineering expertise and experience are applied to the benefit of all Canadians.

Dr. Gopaluni is an internationally renowned expert in process data analytics.
He pioneered the development and application of computational algorithms that characterize and optimize complex industrial processes. These algorithms transform vast industrial data into actionable knowledge. His research enables industries to maintain global competitiveness amidst escalating energy, environment and quality demands. His work resulted in hundreds of research articles and generated several patents.
He has played a key role in educating engineering students and championed diversity and inclusion. His exceptional leadership and mentorship have inspired many students and produced leaders in both academia and industry.
The induction ceremony for new Fellows is scheduled for May 28 in London, Ontario.
