Any long journey has its highs and lows. There will be some tough hills to climb – and some exhilarating views when you get there!
Being surrounded by friends or part of a team makes all the difference.

Find your crew
Engineering students are a welcoming and fun bunch! Unlike some other academic programs, you can expect a fair amount of group project work in engineering. This includes working with others in your labs as well as designing and building projects for course assignments. It makes it easy to get to know people – many of whom will likely become your study partners and may even become your best friends.

Shift gears
It’s important to make time for down time. At UBC, there are dozens of student engineering design teams that do amazingly cool things, from coming up with a biomodular enzyme delivery system to designing, building and launching suborbital rockets. There are many other teams and clubs you can join, and lots of formal and informal activities to pursue.
Great places to hang out
UBC has two campuses: one in Vancouver (UBC Vancouver) and one in Kelowna (UBC Okanagan). Both offer a classic BC experience: stunning locations, easy access to outdoor pursuits like hiking and skiing, and nearby oceans (Vancouver) or lakes (Kelowna) for paddleboarding, kayaking, swimming or lounging on the beach. Vancouver and Kelowna are both multicultural, safe communities with interesting neighbourhoods to explore and places to hang out.
