I am very thankful to be a team member of UBC Rocket where I learned many hands-on skills such as playing with fire, water and electricity as well as playing with machines such as the lathe, the mill and the water jet cutter. I also gained technical knowledge such as the physics behind building a rocket and the calculations done to achieve our design.

How did you decide your current UBC Engineering discipline, or why did you choose UBC Engineering?

I chose engineering because I liked playing with machines and studying how they work. I am in the Manufacturing Engineering discipline where we study many machine-related concepts such as physics, programming and materials analysis. I chose UBC for its convenient location, great environment and weather.

What has made your time at UBC Engineering memorable?

The best part of UBC Engineering was meeting some really good professors who are very patient with me and believed in me more than I believed in myself.

Tell us about your experience in your program. What have you learned that is most valuable?

The most valuable thing I learned was using the lathe, the water jet cutter and the milling machine. I took the PHAS machine shop course and it was life-changing. The teacher was really patient and wise, and I was able to use these skills in my design team.

What resources or events organized by UBC Engineering have helped you in your academic, professional or entrepreneurial journey thus far?

The UBC Job Fair, hosted in the Life Building in September was great for students looking for a part-time job on campus. I found my first part-time job while studying this past school year.

I have had various leadership opportunities with UBC Engineering such as Imagine Day Orientation Leader and events volunteer. I learned from my experiences that if you want to be a good leader, you must also be a good person. I believe my kindness, my charisma and my dedication will help me succeed as a leader.
