Engineering x Arts: Charting Creativity (Grade 9-12)
10:00am - 2:00pm
UBC Geering Up presents Engineering x Arts: Charting Creativity for all students in Grades 9 to 12. In the October of 1966, 10 artists and 30 engineers came together to create or use technology in inventive ways to help with performing arts in a series of events called "9 Evenings of Theatre and Engineering". For instance, 9 Evenings was the first time theatre saw screen projection on stage! Engineering has always been a fundamental pillar for artistic exploration! At the Engineering x Arts event, there will be various "Arts Hubs" that will study how a particular artistic endeavour is strengthened by engineering principles. With mentors coming from an arts, engineering or mixed background, you will get to tinker, create or make a micro-art project based on the Arts Hub you choose! From photography to fashion and beyond, we will learn how both these extremes of arts and engineering combine to create a spectrum of possibilities. This is an event you do not want to miss!

10:00am - 2:00pm
UBC Geering Up presents Women* Developers: Game Design x Cybersecurity for girls* in Grades 8 to 10. Hosted in collaboration with the Vancouver Independent School for Science and Technology, Vancouver's first STEM-dedicated high school, this time, we are exploring both cybersecurity and game design as promising careers! Global Goals x STEM: Call to Ideate (Grade 7-10)
10:00am - 2:00pm
UBC Geering Up presents Global Goals x STEM: Call to Ideate for all students in Grades 7 to 10. Global Goals, also known as the Sustainable Development Goals, split into 17 different goals that aim to resolve social issues including elimination of poverty and hunger. Addressing these issues will take an interdisciplinary approach that will require politicians, activists and global citizens to act! However, scientists and engineers could also have profound impact through their inventions or discoveries. At our last event of 2023 Fall season, you will engage with one Sustainable Development Goal to understand the complexities that exist in addressing the issue. With the help of mentors, you will then have the opportunity to ideate or create a STEM-driven solution in achieving that goal. Today's imagination can be tomorrow's reality. Come join us to tap into your STEM imagination!
