Scholarships totalling $7,300 have been made available through an endowment established by Christopher Spencer. The scholarships are available to students entering the first year of the Engineering program at UBC. Christopher Spencer (1869-1953) had strong ties to both UBC and the history of Vancouver. He served on the Board of Governors of UBC from about 1919 to 1935. In 1952, when Christopher Spencer received his Honorary Doctor of Laws, he was referred to as a "merchant, philanthropist and 'founding father' of this University". The award is made on the recommendation of the Faculty of Applied Sciences.

Up to 5 scholarships valued at $2,500 each are offered annually to outstanding domestic or international students entering their first year of the Bachelor of Applied Science program in Engineering.

Subject to continued scholarship standing, the scholarship will be renewed for a further three years of study or until the first undergraduate degree is obtained, whichever is shorter.

You are eligible if you:

• are entering your first year of the Bachelor of Applied Science program in Engineering
• are either a Canadian student or an international student who will be studying at UBC on a Canadian study permit (student visa)
• have demonstrated outstanding scholarly achievement. Co-curricular activities and leadership potential will also be considered.
• apply to the UBC Bachelor of Applied Science program in Engineering. All students who apply are automatically considered.

Award ID 5422

A $10,000 entrance award has been made available annually through a gift from Fluor Canada Ltd. for an outstanding domestic female student entering the Bachelor of Applied Science program directly from high school. In addition to academic merit, candidates must have demonstrated leadership through participation in extra-curricular or volunteer activities such as professional, school, social and community organizations or athletics. Preference will be given to students involved in activities related to the promotion of women in STEM. Fluor is a multinational engineering, procurement, construction and project management company with 53,000 employees operating on six continents. Fluor Canada Ltd. has supported awards for engineering students at UBC for over thirty years. This academic award is made on the recommendation of the Faculty of Applied Science.

One or more scholarships valued at $5,000 each are awarded annually to exceptional students entering directly from secondary school into the first year engineering program.

Subject to continued scholarship standing, the scholarship will be renewed for a further three years of study or until the first undergraduate degree is obtained, whichever is shorter.

You are eligible if you:

• are new to UBC, entering directly from secondary school
• possess high academic achievement and outstanding promise in engineering, demonstrated through success at national and/or international science and engineering competitions
• apply to the UBC Bachelor of Applied Science program in Engineering. All students who apply are automatically considered.

Award ID 5416

Entrance scholarships totalling up to $10,000 each are offered by the Faculty of Applied Science to a domestic female student entering an undergraduate engineering program directly from high school. Candidates must have demonstrated leadership through participation in extra-curricular or volunteer activities such as professional, school, social and community organizations or athletics. Preference will be given to residents of British Columbia. The awards are made on the recommendation of the Faculty of Applied Science.

Award ID 4695

Renewable entrance scholarships totalling $6,500 have been made available through an endowment established by Professors Yves and Cynthia Bled, along with matching funds from the University of British Columbia, for outstanding undergraduate female engineering students entering university from secondary school or transferring from another post-secondary institution. Preference will be given to candidates that have demonstrated leadership through participation in extra-curricular or volunteer activities such as professional, school, social and community organizations or athletics. To be considered, candidates must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents and preference will be given to residents of British Columbia.

Cynthia and Yves Bled founded the Canadian Future Achievers Leadership program in 2008, with the goal of empowering minority youth in their pursuit of higher education. Cynthia, a retired economics professor and Chair of Future Achievers International, and Yves, a retired cultural anthropology professor, believe strongly in the importance of celebrating, encouraging and rewarding exceptional female engineering students. The scholarships are made on the recommendation of the Faculty of Applied Science.
