UBC Engineering: What to know about and How to Get Started

Engineers solve problems and make the world a better place to live. Discover some of the ways engineering impacts your life every day and everything you need to know in order to become an engineer, beginning with admissions details to UBC Engineering. 

Transfer Pathways to UBC Engineering 

October 15, 2020 - 4:30-5:00 PM

Interested in studying engineering, but not sure if you are ready to start at UBC? UBC Engineering offers several routes which students can start at another institution before transferring. We'll cover the basics of our Engineering Transfer Program with 9 other BC institutions, competitive transfer from another institution or program, and alternative paths like the Aboriginal Transfer Partnership with Langara. This 30 minute session will introduce you to your options and is suitable for students currently studying at other post-secondary institutions or for high school students looking at alternative paths into UBC Engineering.  

Design, Create, Innovate: A Career with Unlimited Possibilities

Interested in a future career where you'll get to design, create, and innovate? Want a career that can make an impacting change in our world? Students with a keen interest in science and math are invited to learn what UBC Engineering has to offer you! With over 14 programs ranging from biomedical to environmental to manufacturing, all with a focus on sustainability and making a positive impact on our world, we invite you to learn about how a degree with UBC Engineering can lead to unlimited career opportunities.  

Supporting your Student's Passion to Design, Create, and Innovate 

October 29 - 5:00-5:30 PM

Engineers get to design, create, innovate, and solve problems to make our world a better place. This special session just for parents, caregivers and teachers will answer many of the questions you might have about what a career in engineering can offer your student.  If you have student who is keen in science and math, attending this session will help you support them on their journey to university and a career in engineering.  

Science vs. Engineering: What's the Difference? 

November 19, 2020 - 4:30-5:00 PM

You've taken science courses in high school, but whether it is biology, chemistry, or physics, did you know you can also focus on these areas in engineering? Whether your interests are in sustainability, design and technology, or preserving our earth, engineering can open up doors for you. Join us for this 30 minute session to dive into what the difference between science and engineering is at both the university setting and in the industry.  


All-Girls* Events

All-Girls* Events are an exciting opportunity for girls across BC to explore how they can use their creativity to help the world. Girls will learn about engineering design and will enjoy fun, hands-on activities led by current university students and meet inspiring mentors. Connect with other like-minded students and talk to current engineering students and professionals who will share their stories and experience. All events are free of cost.  All events in the 2020 – 21 school year will be offered virtually – you will need a device (laptop or desktop computer) at home in order to participate.

Each co-ed workshop shows the exciting possibilities of the tech industry through digital skills literacy! Geering Up Clubs

Geering Up clubs are a mix of science and engineering through hands-on projects, demos, design challenges, lab tours! All clubs are taught by experienced university students with a passion for their field of study.

Geering Up offers engineering and science workshops consisting of exciting demonstrations, interactive experiments, and hands-on activities. Workshops include two Geering Up instructors equipped with all the supplies, enthusiasm and excitement needed for a hands-on 1 to 1.5 hours of discovery.

Teachers are experts at connecting lessons to everyday life, and bringing their classrooms into the world. Engineering is about applying science to everyday life, connecting theories and practice.
Join us to test out three engineering activities that you can use in your grade 4 – 9 classrooms to help create the connection between science and society. Emphasis will be given to activities that relate to the ADST curriculum, including computational thinking and digital skills activities. Leave with ideas, inspiration, and free supply kits.
